Lindsey strikes me as bitter and almost backhanded in his tone in some of his answers.

Packie, you rule! Congrats on getting your question answered first.
Hey, as an aside, my CD was reviewed in Dutch and I am getting airplay in Europe. Take a look here under CD reviews here: www.rootstime.be/ I don't really know what it says but it seems positive http://myspace.com/pedromusic

Here you go.
When I received this album from Pedro Pereira I initially thought I was holding an album filled with salsa, latin or funk. But after listening to it nothing could have been further from the truth. Originally from one of the Carribean islands, he ended up as an American immigrant in Huntington, Long Island, New York. On a professional level Pereira is a journalist. His passions include his wife Diane and his daughter Caroline, writing columns, creating songs and singing. During his younger years Pedro Pereira got introduced to a variation of musical styles, from which he distilled his own sound, grafted onto American rock and pop songs. The songs that came out of that appeared on his debut album "Last Man on the Planet", an album that manages to get me in an cheerful mood. The title song "Last Man on the Planet" reminds me of Lou Reed during his better vocal days. Concerning content there are songs that touch on desire, anxiety, joy, contentment and disappointments. In short, things that everybody comes across in real life. "How I wish it would stop raining", he says in his song "Raining", and when I look outside the window here it's pouring. So I can't say I disagree with him. In "The Island" he honours his country of origin. The same goes for the Portugese closing song "Saudade". In "Lay Down Your Sword" he talks about a soldier who starts having qualms and as a result lays down his murder weapon. The songs on "Last Man on the Planet" are exceptionally beautiful arranged pieces of music, that have been put together with devoted craftsmanship. Pedro Pereira is a little indebted to the guys of Cracker (mostly their singer David Lowery), but you can also compare him to the music of Fleetwood Mac, especially the Lindsey Buckingham songs. Sometimes I even hear a smidge of Orbison, but that could also be bias because of me and my passion. If Pedro Pereira was indeed "the last man on the planet" I would recommend to anyone to listen to his catchy pop songs on his album before you leave this planet. At the very least it will be a pleasant last hour. ---

Vanessa, thanks so much for doing that. That is a good review. The Caribbean thing is a bit of a surprise, though!
Thanks again. Now back to LIndsey... http://myspace.com/pedromusic

First off, congrats to Carne with the awesome review!
A.J., what did you think was bitter/backhanded in the responses? To me I thought they were concise (well concise when we're talking about Lindsey here), and honest, and respectful by giving a complete answer. If anything I thought he was a little awkward on camera, which doesn't seem logical to me, being a performer and all. |

He definitely was awkward. It looked like he had been preparing but then wasn't quite comfortable when it actually started rolling. I hope he keeps talking about the lyrics. That was great.

Come on people, how long do we know this man now? He ALWAYS is a bit awkward on camera. Every tv-interview, his look after a solo-performance, he's always a bit insecure-as if he wants to apologize for what he just did.
If you look at his answers you can see him forget about it at the moment he starts thinking out loud. At those moments, he looks into the camera every now and then with pure and honest "contact". As if he's really talking to you. Go back and filter the awkwardness, to and go look at the good parts: he really is very disarming. Even my girlfriend (who doesn't like his solowork in general) and her sister (who doesn't even know him AT ALL) saw that. And he won't speak about lyrics, if he's not asked about it. Gaius just friggin rules. |

Quote: Absolutely. He's never been big on attention like that, and he's always come across as feeling awkward. Except when he's on stage doing his Thang. Quote: Oh my, you showed this to everyone you know, right? Quote: That's why he must answer my question. Damnit. ---

I love that he got asked about "Faces of Glass." I have always wondered about that. This is so awesome!
The part about it being about disingenuous people I've always suspected, but the part about it being about incomplete people who attach themselves to people like him... people who are disappointed, sad, fragile... since the first appearance of this was on the Go Insane album, could he be talking about Carol Ann? And subsequent girlfriends? I still believe that Down on Rodeo is about Stevie. But how could he not be aware that he had used it three times?!! -Nancy
