She was saved for last. Chris introduced her with "One of the great things about being in this business is you get to discover new talent. I've got someone who I think you'll be hearing a lot from in the future. Her name is STEVIE NICKS!" [ wild applause here lol]. Stevie came out looking GORGEOUS. Her outfit was the back dress with the silver sparkle design on the bodice, and black boots. She was also wearing the moon necklace and the green earrings.
Chris then said, "This next song is an old Christmas standard that really needs no introduction. Hit it!" And then the band started to play "Rhiannon." Stevie didn't react at first, probably thinking "Oh yeah, time to sing Rhiannon" for a nanosecond and then of course she realized that it was a joke. She shook her finger at Chris, laughing. Then she said "That was pretty good," to the band, who were still jamming on the song.
After that, they got to down to business and began the song. Stevie sounded terrific, and really went all out, especially on the line "so be good for GOODNESS SAKE!" The only problem was that Chris had changed the lyrics somewhat - I guess to "make the song his own" - and Stevie occasionally forgot. For instance, Chris reversed "bad" and "good" in the line "He knows if you've been bad or good." Stevie consistently forgot this and finally just kept her mouth shut until Chris had sung "good" and then she piped back up with "or bad." Therefore, they had to do the song about three times. Of course none of us cared and we all ate it up. She got the most applause of the night!
They were very playful; Chris even said "Get down, sexy!" to Stevie during the instrumental break and she dipped and swayed her hips.
She came back out again for the big finale, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." She was singing with not only Chris but also Brian McKnight and Michael Boble (sp?). She got to sing a couple lines herself, however, and they did not. lol She was really getting down during this, dancing away and hitting at her tamborine. They had to do this one twice. Chris brought his dog Rodney out and when they re-did the song, Stevie tried to coax the dog back on stage. "Rodney! Here Rodney!" Very cute.
Then it ended, everyone went off-stage, and we thought that was it. We started to leave, but dawdled a bit because the crowd was moving slowly. Then suddenly we hear "There's Stevie Nicks!" She had come back out onto the stage and was signing autographs!!!! Of course Kristin and I rushed over, but we were only two of about forty people who had also seen Stevie and were trying to get autographs. She signed quite a few. Meanwhile Chris and Brian also came out but unfortunately the fans at Stevie's feet were too focused on getting her autograph and therefore only a few people asked them for theirs. I felt kind of bad for them, but I didn't want to use up my ticket (the only thing I had for someone to sign) on Chris or Brian when I could perhaps get Stevie to sign it. Kristin did, however, ask Chris for an autograph, as he was standing right above her.
While we were waiting to get an autograph, the coolest thing happened! Someone started playing "Stand Back" on the piano as she signed. Stevie laughed and turned around, leaving us all waving our pens and papers, to go to the piano. Brian McKnight said he wanted to play "Rhiannon," but didn't know it. Stevie said, "You can do it!" He said, "No I can't. She repeated "Yes you can" and then he repeated "No I can't" and so she finally sat down and did it herself. She played the chords of "Rhiannon" similar to the way she played it for Storytellers, although she didn't sing. Of course we were all in awe. Then afterwards, she signed some more autographs before we were all cleared out by her bodyguard. Kristin and I did not get her signature, unfortunately.
Kristin and I determined to go wait by the limos, hoping for an experience like that of those who waited after Lindsey's Soundstage. We waited for about 45 minutes, and she finally came out - and went directly into her limo without looking up! Ah well. That's life.
All in all we're both very glad we went. I can't wait to see it!
